Commander X16 Developer Edition

From: $349.99

This item will be released January 31, 2025.

/*Update:  Hey Everyone!  We originally had hoped to have the machines available by the end of November, but that date is rapidly approaching, and we’re not quite there yet.  The parts have been delivered to the manufacturer, but still do not have a date for finished machines.  We also dropped them off later than planned, so we’re not trying to blame them, we just aren’t sure at this time when we will start getting them.

We are changing the release date to Jan 31, 2025.  However, we do expect them to start coming in before that time.  The manufacturing process is now underway, and we will start releasing pre-orders as we receive them.  When we release your order, it will initiate payment. Once the payment is complete, we will ship your order.  We do apologize for the delay, but we are committed to getting the orders fulfilled as quickly as possible.   I will make another update as we get a timeframe for turnaround.  Thanks for your patience, and thanks again for being part of the community! */

The Commander X16 Developer Edition is now available for pre-order!  We are in the process of making another batch of machines, we expect to have them ready by the end of Jan 2025. This is a loose timeline so if there is a change of release date you will be notified via email prior to the release.  Please make sure that texelec.com is on your safe list so we don’t end up in your spam/junk mail.

Once the machines are ready we will release your pre-order.  At that time you will receive an email and your payment will be processed.  If you chose to “pay later”when you pre-ordered you will receive an email to submit payment.  Again, please make sure that texelec.com is on your safe list.

Notes:
The Commander X16 Developer Edition was designed to fit in a low-profile Micro ATX computer case.  It will fit in most any ATX case too, so you can use an old machine you have sitting around to house your Commander if desired.  Likewise, nearly any 20 or 24 pin ATX-style power supply will work with the system.  Please ensure your power supply provides +5VDC, +12VDC and -12VDC.  Some modern supplies for PCIe only systems do not provide -12V and it is required for the X16.  We recommend using the lowest wattage ATX supply you have access to.  The system only consumes 3 to 5 watts.

Commander X16 Developer Edition Upgrade

The default configuration of the Commander X16 Developer Edition has 512KB of High RAM. Most applications and games will work within 512KB, but there are some cases where more RAM may be desirable. Future system releases may have only 512KB of RAM, but the Developer Edition is upgradeable to allow for more complex environments used by developers and power users. Likewise, the USER VIA IC (65C22) will allow the use of the User Port. As an added protection measure, two electrostatic discharge protection devices are included to protect the pins of the user-port. The board already has sockets for these chips, so simply turn off the power and pop them in! No soldering required. This upgrade includes the following:

1 x Western Design Center W65C22S6TPG-14: U28 - 65C22 User VIA IC
2 x Littelfuse SP720APP: TVS1 & TVS2 - ESD Protection Diode Packages
3 x Alliance AS6C4008: U4-U6 - 3 x 512KB SRAM ICs 1.5MB High RAM Upgrade

Pico ATX Power Supply

The Commander X16 Developer Edition was designed to fit in a standard low-profile MicroATX case.  However, it fits in standard full-height ATX cases and will work with most standard ATX power supplies as well.  If you already have a case, but still need a power supply, this module will work great for the Developer Edition.  You will need a standard 12V AC adapter with a 5.5mm outer / 2.5mm inner diameter barrel jack connector.  We recommend a 3amp supply which is more than enough power for the system and peripherals you may use.Specifications:
24 pin ATX connector, plugs directly into the ATX connector
Input Voltage Range:11.4VDC—12.6VDC
Incoming Current Range:16.0A Max @11.4VDC
Input Surging Current:12.0Amax@12VDC
Work Efficiency: ≥85%
Working temperature/humidity:  -5℃to 55℃/ 45%-75%
CE, ROHS Certification*Note, if you use your own power supply, please ensure it provides +5V, +12V and -12V.  Some modern supplies for PCIe only systems do not provide -12V and it is required for the X16.  Both 20 and 24 pin ATX power supplies will work correctly with the system.  We recommend using the lowest wattage ATX supply you have access to.  The system only consumes 3 to 5 watts.

Commander X16 Expansion Port Prototype Card

This 60-pin prototype PCB is designed for low profile or standard height ATX cases. It uses a standard right angle DB25 connector and one of two standard PCIe brackets. The exposed DB25 connector may be used for your prototype or connected to the internal User Port header. Great for DIY projects!Note: The LAZER3D case was designed to be as low profile as possible and does not accomodate vertical expansion boards in most cases. You may be able to install them in the machine if they don't have ports which protrude enough to hit the back of the case. However, the lid will not fit on the system with them installed.
